Cut-resistant gloves are part of the compulsory safety equipment worn by speed skaters to protect them from injury during racing and training. If you already have your own gloves feel free to use them instead. 

Newer skaters tend to prefer to wear something warm, like ski gloves. However, as they improve, their hands will get hot and sweat in these more easily, which will actually make their heads get very cold. It’s all about balancing heat, comfort and safety. Bare hands are not acceptable. NOTE: Knitted gloves will not be accepted at sanctioned events. Check with a coach beforehand to make sure your gloves comply with regulations.

What are they for? To protect fingers from blades and to keep warm! Falls and crashes happen… It’s best to keep those fingers covered and warm when they hit the ice and get tangled up with other skaters.

Compulsory safety equipment that MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES when participating in speed skating events and training. Skaters will not be permitted on the ice without it. These items are:
